Hello -
My name is Mike Dion. I call Denver, Colorado home.
I started riding again, with a new found passion, about 3 years ago.
What happened before that? My wife and I were raising two young children and I was working a corporate job providing for the family, which left little time for extra-curricular-activities.
Now that the family unit is running pretty self sufficiently, I have been able to get back on a bicycle.
My new found passion seems to be centered around - how far can I go on a bicycle?
I was inspired by an article from the FatCyclist.com about 3 years ago. His explanation of his first experience doing the Leadville 100 was intoxicating, I had to try it.
I did. I finished. I was never going to do it again. …5 days later I was planning how I could shave an hour or two off my time.
The rest is history.
Prior to the now, I raced BMX as a youngster and attempted cool tricks on my Hutch Trick Star. I purchased a Specialized Hardrock Comp in 1988 and explored all the mountain trails in and around Bozeman, MT where I was going to college.
I would not consider myself a bicycle racer – I would classify myself as a bicycle adventurer. It is a great feeling to pedal yourself into unknown terrain, exploring new and incredible sights then getting yourself back home again; all under the power of your own 2 cylinder engine (left leg and right leg).
To borrow a statement from Adventure Cycling: Envision everyone becoming aware of the amazing power and magic of traveling and seeking adventures by bicycle.
